On Stage April 2018 Swap

Hey hey!

This year I thought would make a swap for On Stage. I chose an explosion purse. It has been around for a while, so I don't know who to give credit. Here's how I made mine.

There's a very clear video on making one on Julie Dimatteo's YouTube channel. Her channel is called The Paper Pixie. Her purse has smaller dimensions, you might want to check it out. I have not yet progressed to making videos. Blogging is enough for now, she said.

You need:

a piece of Designer Series Paper of 7½" x 7½"

for the top of the bag a Cardstock circle measuring 2½"

for the handle a strip of Cardstock measuring 3½" x ¼"

small magnets to help keep the purse closed (or Velcro dots)

Fast Fuse to adhere the top of the purse (or Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear&Tape)

By the time I got down to writing this blog post I had run out of the blue Designer Series Paper, so here you see different colours. 

Score the 7½" x 7½" piece at 2½" and 5", turn the paper and score again at 2½" and 5". Along two (opposite!) sides, make a small indentation at the 3¾" mark. Then make score lines from the two 3¾" to the corners. Also make diagonal score lines from the centre towards the corners. Please see the picture of the template.

Mind the following: the 3¾" marks will be the sides of the purse that will fold in, so if you are using patterned paper and the pattern is important, have a look at what will be the part that folds up under the top of the purse. Do I make sense? I hope so. I learnt the hard way. Look at the picture for the direction of the paper and the position of the halfway score marks.

Put down the paper like this.

Fold and burnish all score lines and cut off the corners.

Take the 2½" circle and score it at 1⅛" and 1⅜". Fold and burnish. Take the handle and score it at 3¼", turn it and score again at 3¼".

Adhere the top to the purse. I fold in the sides of the purse, this helps me align it. 

Adhere the handle to the top. Then adhere a magnet to the inside of the purse, not too far away from the edge.

Inside

Allow the other magnet to adhere itself to the first magnet on the outside of the purse. In that way you are sure it's in the right position. Stick a Glue Dot on the magnet on the outside.

Fold the purse together like this

(In this picture, the magnet is already adhered to the top.)

Fold the top of the bag over and adhere it to the Glue Dot. Gently press down, then open the purse. Press the magnets well onto the paper.

Finally, stick an embellishment of some kind on the top of the bag to simulate a closure. The Metal Rimmed Pearls look beautiful for this.

Ik heb gespeeld met de Stamparatus™. Dit een nieuwe stempelpositioneerder van Stampin' UP! en, boy oh boy, wat is dat een geweldig apparaat! Er zijn er meer op de markt, dat is waar, maar de onze heeft zoveel meer mogelijkheden om door te kunnen stempelen. Dat komt omdat er meer platen zijn waarop je je stempel kunt bevestigen. Je kunt de platen ook nog eens omkeren en van boven naar beneden bewegen.

I've been playing with my Stamparatus™. The new stamp positioner by Stampin' UP! and, boy oh boy, what a marvellous thing it is! There are more of them on the market, true, but ours has so many more possibilities for you to keep stamping. That's because there are more plates to put your stamp on. The plates are reversible and you can move them down too. 

Deze kaart had ik heel snel gemaakt. De stempelset is een oudere, maar hetzelfde idee is heel makkelijk uit te voeren met een andere stempel.

This card was really quickly made. I did use an older stamp, but the same idea is easy to carry out using a different stamp.

Ik moet wel zeggen dat zo'n kaart mijn stijl is. Ik ben niet zo van het bloemige. Toch vond ik dat ik mezelf eens moest uitdagen en een zeg maar 'zachte' kaart moest maken.

I have to confess this is my kind of card. I am not so much into the floral type cards. Still I was of the opinion I should challenge myself and make a 'soft' card.

Ik denk dat hij voor Moederdag wordt. Ik vind hem zelf niet onaardig geworden. Wat vind jij? I think I'll use it for Mother's Day. I am not too unhappy with it. What do you think?

Tutti-Frutti Meets Perennial Birthday Project Kit

Ik heb kortgeleden een workshop gehouden voor een klant die graag de Perennial Birthday Project Kit had. Zij zorgt ervoor dat de leden van een club een verjaardagskaart krijgen. Zoals zij opmerkte, deze kit is geweldig om de kaarten in te bewaren en om makkelijk te zien wanneer iemand jarig is door de tabbladen.

Recently I did a workshop for a customer who wanted to buy the Perennial Birthday Project Kit. She sees to it that the members of a club receive a birthday card. As she said, the kit is just wonderful to keep the cards in and to see at a glance whose birthday is coming up because of the dividers.

De meeste leden zijn mannen en hoewel mijn klant had gezegd dat zij de kaarten in de kit niet te bloemerig vond, besloot ik haar te verassen en haar kaarten met een neutrale uitstraling cadeau te doen. Ze had de bijpassende stempelset Perennial Birthday niet nodig dus ik had haar al beloofd een en ander aan te passen en Nederlandse spreuken te gebruiken. Kijk, dat is nou zo geweldig aan Stampin' UP!, alles past zo mooi bij elkaar en het is onderling uit te wisselen.

Most of the club members are men and although my customer had told me that she didn't think the cards in the kit too flowery, I decided to surprise her and to add cards with a neutral look as her gift. She didn’t need the matching Perennial Birthday stamp set so I had promised her to change things up anyway and to use some Dutch sentiments as well. That's the absolute beauty of Stampin' UP!, everything co-ordinates and is interchangeable.

Bird Banter

Een snel blogberichtje. Voor het nieuwe jaar heb ik verjaardagskaarten nodig. Bird Banter komt uit de nieuwe Spring/Summer Catalogue, die ingaat op 3 januari. Ik kreeg hem cadeau in november bij OnStage. Dat is een evenement voor demonstrators waar o.a. de nieuwe catalogus gepresenteerd wordt. Als demonstrator krijg je altijd eerder toegang, dat is één van de voordeeltjes die je hebt.

A quick blog post. I need birthday cards for the coming year. Bird Banter is from the new Spring /Summer Catalogue will be valid from 3 January. It was one of my OnStage presents in November. This is a demonstrator event at which among other things the new catalogue is presented. As a demonstrator you get early access, one of the perks of being a demonstrator.

Verjaardagkaarten, dus. Ik wilde er Happy Birthday op stempelen, maar bedacht toen dat ik zonder tekst, hem ook kan gebruiken voor Beterschap.

Ik versier ook de binnenkant van mijn kaarten - dubbel plezier! En natuurlijk mag ook de envelop niet kaal zijn. Dat is saai.

So, birthday cards. When I started designing, I meant to stamp Happy Birthday on it, but I realised that without a sentiment I can use it as a Get Well card too.

I also decorate the inside of my cards - double the fun! And, of course, the envelope should not be plain either. Boring to my mind.

Winterversiering / Winter Decoration

Hier een paar winterversieringen. Het idee om wegwerpglazen te gebruiken is van Christie Wroe. Jammer genoeg zijn mijn glazen op, maar dit idee kan voor zoveel meer dingen gebruikt worden. De enige beperking is dat wat je bedenkt in het glas moet passen. Wat zou je vinden van een verjaardagsgeschenkje met de Large Numbers Framelits erin?

Here are some winter decorations. I got the idea for using disposable wine glasses from Christie Wroe. Sadly, I have run out of glasses, but this idea could stretch to so many more themes for many more occasions. As long as you can fit inside whatever you're thinking of, it's a possibility. How about a birthday gift with some Large Numbers Framelits inside?

Neem de bovenste helft van een wegwerpglas. Ik heb Glassine Sheets gebruikt voor de buitenkant. Deze sheets zitten niet meer in de collectie, maar misschien heb je er nog wat van. Ik wilde het idee van een gegraveerd glas maken. I heb een stuk op een stuk Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet geplakt en daarmee de sneeuwvlokken gestanst van de Seasonal Layers Framelits en deze op het glas geplakt. Voor weer een andere look heb ik Mini Glue dots op een glas geplakt en deze bedekt met Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.

Use the top half of a disposable wine glass. For the outside I made snowflakes from Glassine Sheets. These are discontinued, but perhaps you still have some left. I wanted an engraved look. I stuck a piece on some Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet and die cut the snowflakes from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, which I then adhered to the glass. For another look, I stuck some Mini Glue Dots to a glass and covered these with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.

Snijd twee cirkels in de omvang van het glas voor de bodem. I heb Thick Whisper White Cardstock cirkels op elkaar geplakt voor extra stevigheid. Ik wilde een glinsterende bodem, dus ik heb een cirkel gestanst, deze op een stuk Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet geplakt en de kleverige zijde bedekt met Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. Voor het glas met de kleine Eskimo heb ik Embossing Paste gebruikt, deze bestrooid met Dazzling Diamonds Glitter en het teveel eraf geschud.

Cut two circles in the diameter of the glass to be used as a bottom piece. I have used Thick Whisper White Cardstock circles stuck together, for extra sturdiness. I wanted a sparkly bottom decoration, so I cut a circle, put it on a piece of Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet and covered the tacky side in Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. For the glass with the little Inuk or Yupik I used Embossing Paste. I covered this with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and shook off the excess.

Stans of pons uit Thick Whisper White Cardstock om de figuurtjes te maken. Snijd en versier ook de voor- en achterkant. Plak alles op elkaar.

De sneeuwvlokken zijn achttien keer geponst. Ik heb ze gestempeld in Soft Sky en rijkelijk voorzien van Rhinestone Basic Jewels voor wat bling.

De kleine Eskimo is ook achttien keer geponst. Ik heb hem gestempeld in Memento Black en gekleurd met de Stampin' Blends.

To make the figurines, cut or punch from Thick Whisper White Cardstock. Also cut and decorate the front and end pieces. Adhere all shapes together.

The snowflakes have been punched eighteen times. I stamped them in Soft Sky and used plenty of Rhinestone Basic Jewels for some bling.

The Inuk/Yupik has also been punched eighteen times. I stamped the figurine in Memento Black and coloured it with the Stampin' Blends.

Om alle zijden mooi aan te laten sluiten, gebruik ik mijn drijvende lijm methode. TomBow Multi Purpose Liquid Glue geeft je kans nog een beetje te schuiven met je papier. Maar omdat het even duurt voor de lijn goed vastzit kan het ook weer teveel schuiven. Ik breng altijd een klein stukje Snail Adhesive aan in het midden en doe dan spaarzaam TomBow Multi Purpose Liquid Glue langs de randen. Dit werkt prima wanneer je panelen op kaarten vastzet en al helemaal wanneer je van deze kleine stukjes voor in de glazen wilt plakken.

To make sure all sides are a nice fit, I use my floating glue method. Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue gives you that extra little room to move the paper around. However, because it takes a little time to dry it can also move again. I always put a tiny bit of Snail Adhesive in the middle and then sparingly some Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue around the edges. This works wonderfully well when adhering panels on cards and it works even better when adhering these tiny pieces for the glasses.

De ijsbeer is negen keer gestanst omdat je de voor- en achterkant tegelijkertijd stanst. Ik heb eerst de afbeelding gestempeld en gekleurd met de Basic Gray Watercolor Pencil en een Blender Pen. Ik heb de voor- en achterkant met de hand geknipt. Daarna heb ik de uitgeknipte afbeeldingen overgetrokken op de blanco gestanste vormen en die daarna ook met hand geknipt.

The polar bear was die cut 9 times because both front and back are cut at the same time. I first stamped the image and coloured it using the Basic Gray Watercolor Pencil and a Blender Pen. I fussy cut the front and back. Then I used the cut images and traced them on the blank cuts in pencil and fussy cut those as well.

Nu had mijn ijsbeer nog een bij op zijn achterwerk. Die heb ik gecamoufleerd met een sneeuwvlok.

Now my little bear still had a bee on its bum. I camouflaged it with a snowflake.

Gebruik een lijmpistool om de figuurtjes vast te plakken. Gebruik ten slotte de Fine Tip Glue Pen om het glas op de bodem vast te zetten. Laat wel een nachtje drogen!

Use hot glue to stick the figurines down. Finally use the Fine Tip Glue Pen to stick the glass to the bottom. Leave to dry overnight!

Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper

Basic Black Cardstock

-       4 matten 2½" x 2½"

-       4 Gold Foil Paper cirkel met de Nr. 2 scallop (de op een na kleinste) van de Layering Circles Framelits

-       4 kransen met de stempelset Thuiskomen op Thick Whisper White, gekleurd met de Stampin' Blends: Light & Dark Old Olive en Light Cherry Cobbler.

De kransen zijn gestanst met bijbehorende framelit van de At Home Framelits en vastgezet met Mini Dimensionals.

Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper

Basic Black Cardstock

-       4 panels 2½" x 2½"

-       4 Gold Foil Paper circles No. 2 scallop (second smallest) from the Layering Circles Framelits

-       4 wreaths using the At Home With You stampset on Thick Whisper White, coloured with Stampin' Blends: Light & Dark Old Olive and Light Cherry Cobbler.

The wreaths have been die cut using the corresponding framelit from the At Home Framelits and adhered using Mini Dimensionals.

Ik heb de buitenste vier 1⅜" cirkels op Old Olive Cardstock gestempeld met de sterren uit de stempelset Nacht in Bethlehem en ze met goud embosst. Neem daarvoor een stukje Old Olive van 7,5 x 7,5 cm en stempel in Versamark en goud emboss. Pons vier cirkels met de 1⅜" Circle Punch. Om de bodem af te werken heb je een stukje papier van 7 x 7 cm nodig.

The exterior four 1⅜" circles have been stamped and gold embossed onto Old Olive Cardstock using the star images from Night in Bethlehem. Take a 3" x 3" piece of Old Olive, stamp in Versamark and gold emboss. Punch four circles from this piece of Cardstock with the 1⅜" Circle Punch. To finish the bottom you need a piece of 2¾" x 2¾".

Hoger doosje (hoogte 12,5 x breedte 7 cm) / Taller Box (height 4⅝ - width 2¾")

Voor dit doosje heb ik eerst zelf emboss resist papier gemaakt met stempels van Nacht in Bethlehem door de afdrukken te embossen met wit embossingpoeder. Ik heb dit zo vaak als nodig herhaald om de hele breedte van het papier te bestrijken. Daarna heb ik de lucht en het zand gekleurd met de sponge brayers met Pacific Point en Daffodil Delight. Doe dit voor je gaat rillen en vouwen.

Voor de cirkels heb ik Night of Navy Cardstock gebruikt. Vier van de cirkels zijn ook gestempeld en embosst met wit embossingpoeder. De ster is ook uit Nacht in Bethlehem, met goud embosst op Night of Navy en gestanst met de bijbehorende edgelit van de Bethlehem Edgelits Dies. Hij is vastgezet met een Dimensional.

For this box I first made my own emboss resist paper by stamping images from Night in Bethlem and heat embossing them using white embossing powder. I have repeated this multiple times across the paper. Then I coloured the sky and sand using sponge brayers with Pacific Point and Daffodil Delight. Do this before scoring and folding.

For the circles I've used Night of Navy Cardstock. Four of the circles I stamped and heat embossed using white embossing powder as well. The star is also an image from Night in Bethlehem, gold embossed on Night of Navy Cardstock and cut using the corresponding edgelit from the Bethlehem Edgelits Dies. I have used a Dimensional to adhere it to the box.

Gebruik voor een hoger doosje een heel vel A4 Whisper White Thick Cardstock. Met de lange zijde boven, ril op 2¾" / 5½" / 8¼" / 11". Maak halverwege de panelen een inkeping op 1⅜" / 4⅛" / 6⅞" / 9⅝". Draai het papier tegen de klok in (de ½" rillijn moet boven liggen) ril op 1⅜" en 6¼". Je hebt een vierkantje van 7 x 7 cm (2¾" x 2¾") nodig om de bodem af te werken omdat de flappen niet volledig over elkaar heen sluiten.

For a taller Box, use a full sheet of A4 Whisper White Thick Cardstock. Warning: this is the A4 that we get in Europe. With the long side at the top, score at 2¾" / 5½" / 8¼" / 11". Make an indentation half-way on the squares: at 1⅜" / 4⅛" / 6⅞" / 9⅝". Turn the paper anti-clockwise (the ½" score line should be at the top) and score at 1⅜" and 6¼". You will need a 2¾" x 2¾" square to stick over the bottom as the flaps do not fully overlap.

Sizes for American A4 Cardstock (box size = 5⅛" x 2½")

For the American A4 I have resized in such a way that I wouldn't end up with 1-16ths" (as these drive me bonkers).

Take a sheet of Whisper White Thick Cardstock measuring 10½" x 8½". With the long side at the top, score at 2½" / 5" / 7½" / 10". Make an indentation half-way at 1¼" / 3¾" / 6¼" / 8¾". Turn the paper anti-clockwise (the ½" score line should be at the top) and score at 1⅜" and 6½". You will need a 2½" x 2½" square to stick over the bottom as the bottom doesn't fully overlap.

Doosje met cirkelsluiting / Circle Closure Box

Vandaag weer een doosje met een speciale sluiting. Ook van een verpakking die ik bewaard en uit elkaar gehaald heb. Dit doosje had een bovenkant waarvan ik meteen dacht "Echt niet!" Ik heb geen bezwaar tegen knipwerk, maar dit zou me nooit netjes lukken. Ik heb in plaats daarvan de Sweetheart Punch gebruikt, toen realiseerde ik me dat deze niet meer in het assortiment zit. Daarom heb ik een versie gemaakt met de 1⅜" Circle Punch. Ik doe er een foto bij zodat je kunt zien hoe het met de hartjes kan als je die pons wel hebt. De bovenkant ziet er dan uit als een klavertje vier.

Today another box with a special closure. Again from a box I have saved and deconstructed. This box had a top which immediately made me go "No way!" I don't mind fussy-cutting, but this would have been beyond my ability. I used the Sweetheart Punch instead, but then I realised that this punch is not current anymore. Therefore I made a version using the 1⅜" Circle Punch. I'm adding a picture to show how you can use the hearts in case you do have it. The top will resemble a four-leaf clover.

 De maten zijn 7 x 7 cm (2¾" x 2¾"). De bodem overlapt niet helemaal, maar dat is omdat ik de maximale hoogte 6" wilde laten zijn, zodat je er twee kunt maken uit een vel van 12" x 12". Je kunt een vierkant van 2¾" x 2¾" over de bodem heen plakken voor een nette afwerking, daar wordt het doosje nog steviger van.

It measures 2¾" x 2¾". The bottom doesn't overlap all the way, but that's because I wanted to limit the paper to a maximum height of 6" to be able to get two boxes from a 12" x 12" sheet of Cardstock. You can adhere a 2¾" x 2¾" square to the bottom for a nice finish, this will make the box even sturdier.

Je hebt nodig:

-       een stuk Cardstock of Specialty Designer Series Paper van 6" x 11½" (gebruik stevig papier)

-       8 cirkels gemaakt met de 1⅜ Circle Punch

-       een stukje Cardstock van  2¾" x 2¾" voor de bodem

-       Tear&Tape

Met de lange zijde boven maak je rillijnen op 2¾" / 5½" / 8¼" / 11". Maak halverwege de vierkanten een kleine inkeping op 1⅜" / 4⅛" / 6⅞" / 9⅝". Draai het papier tegen de klok in (de rillijn van ½" moet bovenaan zitten) en maak rillijnen op 1⅜" en 4⅛". Maak aan de bovenkant met een lineaal diagonale rillijnen, zoals op de foto. Loop alle rillijnen goed na met je vouwbeen. Knip zoals op de foto. Knip aan de onderkant de vier rillijnen in tot aan de eerste rillijn.

You need:  

-       a piece of 6" x 11½" Cardstock or Specialty Designer Series Paper (use sturdy paper)

-       8  circles made with the 1⅜ Circle Punch

-       a piece of 2¾" x 2¾" paper for the bottom

-       Tear&Tape

With the long side at the top, score at 2¾" / 5½" / 8¼" / 11". Make an indentation half-way on the squares: at 1⅜" / 4⅛" / 6⅞" / 9⅝". Turn the paper anti-clockwise (the ½" score line should be at the top) and score at 1⅜" and 4⅛". Use a ruler and make diagonal score lines at the top as shown in the picture. Burnish all lines well with your bonefolder. Cut as shown in the picture. Cut up the four score lines at the bottom as far as the first score line.

Plak vier van de 1⅜" cirkels aan de bovenkant. Plak ze zo laag vast dat de zijkanten de inkeping halverwege en de rillijn raken. Plak dan de andere vier cirkels aan de achterkant.

Adhere four of the 1⅜" circles onto the top. Stick them as far down until the edges line up with the half-way mark and the score line. Then adhere the other four circles on the reverse.

Breng ook Tear&Tape aan op de bodemflappen, zoals aangegeven in het voorbeeld en zet het doosje in elkaar.

Put Tear&Tape on the bottom flaps as well as indicated in the picture and put the box together.

Duw zachtjes de bovenkant naar beneden om het doosje te sluiten. Je moet het papier even als het ware vertellen wat je wilt, op enig moment vouwt de bovenkant zich wel samen. De eerste keer is misschien wat lichte dwang nodig. Nu volgt een eerste, heel bescheiden poging tot een filmpje om te laten zien hoe het doosje dicht gaat. 

This was my first, very modest attempt at a filmed impression of how the box closes. You gently push the flaps down to close the top. You have to tell the paper which way you want it to go, at some point the top will fold together. You may have to coax the circles a little the first time.

Je kunt dit basispatroon op elke gewenste manier verder versieren. Ik heb een paar voorbeelden in een ander blogbericht gezet, anders zou dit bericht veel te lang zijn geworden. Ga helemaal los met het versieren!
