Christmas 2018 - Takeout Pop-up

Kerst staat nog niet voor de deur, maar op tijd beginnen met nadenken erover en je erop verheugen: dat kan al héél vroeg in het jaar. Zoals ik altijd zeg tegen mensen die dat niet begrijpen: "Ik ben verder niet gevaarlijk, maar wel een beetje veel dol op Kerstmis."	Christmas is some time away, but thinking about it and looking forward to it: that's something you can do from quite early on. As I always say to those who don't understand: "I am not really dangerous, but I am rather really very, very fond of Christmas."
Daarom vandaag mijn eerste kerstproject van 2018 en ik ben er zelf helemaal weg van! Het nieuwe Takeout doosje heb ik tot een pop-upversie omgebouwd. Je kunt het als kerstkaart versturen of gebruiken als tafelversiering met Kerst.	So today my first Christmas project of 2018 and I love, love it! I've changed the new Takeout box into a pop-up version. You can send it as a card or use as a Christmas table favour.

Een octopus op bestelling / An octopus on order

Hey, hey

Deze kaart is op bestelling gemaakt voor een Amerikaanse jonge vrouw die naar Europa komt om te studeren. Haar vriend wilde een welkomstkaart voor haar. Haar lievelingsdier is een octopus. Ik kon makkelijk aan deze wens voldoen met de nieuwe stempelset Seaside Shore en Sea of Textures Framelits. Oh, als je je afvraagt waarom de octopus wijn en stokbrood vast heeft: ze gaat leer van de wijn studeren, in Frankrijk.

I have made this card to order for an American young lady who is coming to Europe to study. Her boyfriend wanted a welcome card for her. Her favourite animal is an octopus. Easy peasy to fulfil that wish with the new stamp set Seaside Shore and matching Sea of Textures Framelits. Oh, by the way, if you should wonder why the octopus is holding wine and French loaves: she is coming over to study winemaking, in France.

Bendy Pop-up Card

Tja, de stempelset Bird Banter zit nog een paar weken in de collectie en gaat daarna met pensioen. Dat is jammer, maar er komen zoveel prachtige, leuke enz. nieuwe producten aan! Wat er ook aan zit te komen is dat er twee nichtjes zullen slagen voor hun diploma. Daarvoor moet ik natuurlijk een leuke kaart hebben!

Dit pop-upmechanisme heb ik de afgelopen dagen zitten verzinnen en uitproberen. Ik weet nu dat het NIET werkt met Specialty Designer Series Paper of het gewone Cardstock. Dat is te stevig en je kaart blijft niet open. Gebruik dus voor  pop-upmechanisme zelf het gewone Designer Series Paper.

Oh well, the Bird Banter stamp set will be current for a few more weeks before it retires. A shame, but there are so many beautiful, fun etc. new products coming soon! What else is coming soon, is that two of my nieces will graduate. Of course I will need a fun card for that!

I've been cooking up this pop-up mechanism in the past few days. I now know that it will NOT work when using Specialty Designer Series Paper or our regular Cardstock. These are too sturdy and the card will not stay open. You should use the regular Designer Series Paper for the pop-up mechanism itself.

Een vraag aan de bezoekers van mijn blog: ik heb in deze post een nieuwe manier gebruikt om Nederlands en Engels te gebruiken en centimeters en inches voor internationaal A4 en voor het Amerikaanse A4. Voorbereidingen voor de kerst / Christmas Preparations

De kerstman is druk met de voorbereidingen voor kerst. Net als ik. Elk jaar maak ik een kaart voor 'speciale' ontvangers. Dat zijn nooit kaarten die je snel in elkaar flanst. Bij Santa's Suit en de Santa Builder Framelits, had ik meteen het idee een echte waslijn te gaan maken. Ik moest alleen even nadenken over hoe ik die zou opbouwen. Het is een mini pop-up geworden, gemaakt van 4 strookjes Cardstock van 1,5 x 3 cm die gerild zijn op 1,5 cm. Je plakt ze eerst op de basiskaart, daarna plak je voor een mooie afwerking er een paneel Designer Series Paper overheen. 

Daarna is het een kwestie van versieren.

Santa is busy preparing for Christmas. And so am I. Every year I make a Christmas card for 'special' recipients. These are never cards that you throw together in a jiffy. When I saw Santa's Suit and the Santa Builder Framelits, I immediately thought I'd  build a real clothes line. All I had to do was figure out how to erect it. What I came up with is a mini pop-up, made of 4 strips of Cardstock measuring ⅝" x 1¼", scored at ⅝". You adhere these to the base card first, then you adhere a panel of Designer Series Paper on top for a nice finish.

After that it's just a matter of decorating.

Alle staande versieringen zijn dubbelzijdig, je moet de kaart natuurlijk van alle kanten kunnen bekijken. Ik heb zo twaalf kaarten gemaakt. Dat waren 24 broeken, 24 jasjes, 24 kerstbomen enz. en maar liefst 96 wasknijpers. Die waren nog de grootste uitdaging omdat ze zo pietepeuterig zijn. Zo, mijn speciale kaart voor dit jaar is klaar. Nu ga ik vrolijk verder met het verzinnen van nog meer kaarten en kerstversieringen. Beetje Bing Crosby en anderen op de achtergrond, ik kan geen mens vertellen hoe gelukkig ik dan ben!

96 wasknijpers / 96 clothes pins 

All the upright decorations are double-sided because the card has to look good from any angle. I have made twelve of these cards. So 24 pairs of trousers, 24 jackets, 24 Christmas trees etc. and no less than 96 clothes pins. They were the biggest challenge because they're so fiddly. Right, this year's special card is ready. Now I can happily continue thinking up more cards and Christmas decorations. Bing Crosby and some others crooning away in the background, I can't tell you how happy this makes me!

Eenvoudige Pop-up / Simple Pop-up

Zoals beloofd een uitleg voor een eenvoudig pop-upmechanisme. De producten en hulpmiddelen waar ik naar verwijs, zijn producten van Stampin' Up! Deze uitleg gaat alleen over het mechanisme, je kunt het versieren zo je wilt het principe is hetzelfde.

As promised a tutorial on a simple pop-up mechanism. The products and tools I refer to are Stampin' UP!'s. This tutorial is about the mechanism only. You can decorate it in any way you wish, the principle of the mechanism is the same.

Snijd een strook papier van 21 x 6 cm. Met de lange zijde boven, rillen op 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 cm. Met de korte zijde boven, rillen op 1 cm.

Cut a strip of cardstock of 21 x 6 cm (8-⅜" x 2-⅜"). With the long side at the top, score at 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 cm (2" / 4" / 6" / 8"). With the short side at the top, score at 1 cm (⅜").

Vouw alle rillijnen en vouw ze goed na met je vouwbeen. Snijd twee stukken van de lange 1cm strook af, zoals te zien is in foto 1. Plak Fast Fuse op de overblijvende stroken. Tip: eerst plakken en daarna knippen. Knip de hoeken heel scherp in, zoals in de foto. Dit is belangrijk om alles goed te laten passen.

Fold all score lines and burnish them well with your bone folder. Cut off two sections of the long 1cm (⅜") strip as shown in picture 1. Adhere Fast Fuse to the remaining 1 cm (⅜") strips. Tip: adhere Fast Fuse before cutting. Cut away corners at a very acute angle, as shown. This is important for a proper fit.

Je kunt de hoogte en de breedte aanpassen. Bij de piggy-kaart heb ik een hekje op het mechanisme geplakt, het mechanisme zelf is lager zodat het lijkt op gras. Bij de vissenkaart heb ik de hele hoogte van het mechanisme gebruikt. Tip: versier de binnenkant ook, anders ziet het er vreemd uit als je van bovenaf in de kaart kijkt.

Let erop dat je het mechanisme en de versiering niet te hoog maakt, de pop-up steekt anders uit de kaart wanneer die dichtgevouwen is. Altijd even proberen, voordat je iets vastplakt.

You can alter the height and width. For the piggy card I have adhered a gate onto the mechanism, which is made lower to resemble grass. In the fish card I have decorated the full height of the mechanism. Tip: decorate the inside as well, otherwise it will look odd when you look into the card from above.

Be careful not to make the mechanism and decorations too high, the pop-up will be visible outside the card when closed. Always try it out first, before adhering anything.

Verwijder de achterkant van de Fast Fuse van de plakstrook aan korte kant en plak het mechanisme in elkaar. (Foto 2)

Remove the Fast Fuse backing from the tab on the short side and stick the mechanism together. (Picture 2.)

Snijd een sjabloon van 5 x 5 cm dat helpt te bepalen waar je het mechanisme op de kaart moet plakken. (Het vierkantje in foto 3.) Meet vanaf de bodem van de kaart ongeveer 3 cm af en markeer dit met een dun potloodpuntje. De punt gum je later weg. Leg het sjabloontje langs de rillijn, met de punt beneden op de markering. Trek dan een dunne potloodlijn rechtsboven langs het sjabloontje. Deze lijn geeft aan waar het mechanisme komt. (Foto 3)

Cut a template measuring 5 x 5 cm (2" x 2") to determine where to attach the mechanism to the card. (The square in picture 3.) Measure about 3 cm (1-3/16" and if you don't like fiddly measurements: somewhere slightly shorter than 1-¼") from the bottom of the card and mark this point with a thin pencil dot. Erase the dot later. Put down the template along the fold line, lined up with your measurement at the bottom. Then draw a thin pencil line along the top right side of the template. The pencil line will be your guide. (Picture 3)

Belangrijk: de twee plakstroken moeten altijd boven zitten. Verwijder de achterkant van de Fast Fuse van de plakstrook rechtsboven en plak het mechanisme langs de potloodlijn. Zorg ervoor dat de bovenste hoek goed aansluit op de rillijn. (Foto 4)

Important: keep both glue tabs at the top. Remove the Fast Fuse backing from the tab on the right and adhere the mechanism along the pencil line. Make sure you line up the top corner with the score line. (Picture 4)

Vouw het mechanisme wanneer het vast zit naar rechts, verwijder de achterkant van de Fast Fuse van de andere plakstrook en vouw de kaart dicht om ook de andere kant vast te zetten. (Foto 5)

When adhered, fold down the mechanism to the right, remove the backing from the Fast Fuse of the second glue tab and fold the card closed to adhere the other side as well. (Picture 5)
